How Green Tea helps for weight loss

Green tea has been linked to weight loss and is often included in weight loss diets and supplements. But how effective is green tea for weight loss, and is it a good choice for those looking to shed pounds?

Green tea contains compounds called catechins, which are antioxidants that can help increase metabolism and fat burning. One of these catechins, called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), has been shown to boost metabolism and increase fat oxidation in studies.

However, the effects of green tea on weight loss are modest at best. A review of 11 studies found that green tea catechins resulted in a weight loss of only 1.3 kg (about 2.9 pounds) on average over a period of 12 weeks.

It’s also important to note that the amount of green tea required to see these effects is quite high – around 400-500 mg of EGCG per day. This is equivalent to drinking about 3-5 cups of green tea daily, which may not be feasible or desirable for everyone.

Additionally, it’s important to keep in mind that green tea should not be seen as a magic bullet for weight loss. It can be a helpful addition to a healthy diet and exercise routine, but it won’t make up for poor dietary choices or a lack of physical activity.

Overall, while green tea may offer some benefits for weight loss, its effects are relatively small and require consuming a high amount of EGCG. It’s best to view green tea as one tool in a larger weight loss strategy, rather than a standalone solution.
